Cogent Offers Microsoft Online Services

July 28, 2008. Dallas, TX. Cogent Company has joined the Microsoft Online Services Partner Advisor Program. Seeking to offer its clients multiple ways to use Microsoft’s SharePoint products, Cogent now offers its clients its SharePoint services in a software as a service (Saas) service model through Microsoft Online Services in addition to managed services solutions from its other hosting partners. “This is really about being able to offer choices to our clients for how they want to consume SharePoint in their organization. There are definite benefits to the Microsoft Online Services offering for the right kind of client in the right circumstance,” said Marc Hoppers, Cogent Company Partner, in Dallas on Monday. “This option won’t work for everyone… it’s not supposed to. But, for our clients who need the features available from Windows SharePoint Services provisioned quickly and with no hassle, this is a great option at a great price point.”

Cogent Company joined the Microsoft Online Services beta program in May, 2008, when it began for select partners and customers. This version of Microsoft Online Services offers the Business Productivity Online Suite, which  consists of Microsoft Exchange Online, Microsoft Office SharePoint Online, Microsoft Office Live Meeting, Microsoft Office Communications Online, and Microsoft Exchange Hosted Filtering. Business Productivity Online Suite provides streamlined communications, simplified management, and business-class reliability and security to customers and a guaranteed 99.9% Service Level Agreement. Microsoft is offering this hosted solution through partners to provide enterprise class software to customers via subscription services.

“The Business Productivity Online Suite allows Cogent to offer streamlined communication, simplified IT management, and business-class security and reliability to Customers,” said Hoppers.

Streamlined communication provides anywhere access and a seamless end-user and administration experience. This gives the customer the ability to access services over the Web, using a PC or mobile device, and to do it securely, without a VPN. It also enables customers to collaborate between e-mail and documents and the Web via conferencing and shared portals. Plus, customers get the latest Microsoft technologies and releases at no additional charge.

One of the key elements to the simplified management initiatives is the fact that Microsoft Online Services can be managed from a single administration portal. That means one place to view operational statistics, provision new users and track any support issues. This reduces cost of ownership  and increases on-boarding efficiency is when it’s done from one place. A single point of administration allows you to:

  • Track and resolve support issues.
  • Manage “co-existence” of on-premise and hosted solution components
  • Combine hosted services with on-premise Exchange servers
  • Access data migration tools
  • Manage the overall health of the service
  • And configure service settings

Finally, customers have questions about security and reliability when making any kind of decision that involves turning over an element of their IT operations to a third party. You can tell them that Microsoft data centers, where their solution will be hosted, are backed by a 99.9% service level agreement  with financial guarantees. Disaster recovery is also included – there is switchover to a separately located data center in case of a primary failure.
