Cogent Signs on as Title Sponsor for SharePoint TechFest

March 31, 2011. Cogent Company has signed on as a title sponsor for the largest SharePoint Conference in the Central Region of the United States. On Thursday, May 19, 2011, in its third year, SharePoint TechFest 2011 will feature a keynote presentation and 20 break-out sessions categorized into four distinct tracks:

  • Enterprise Content Management (ECM)
  • Sites & Communities (Collaboration & Social Computing)
  • Composites (Workflows), Search, Business Intelligence (Insights)
  • Development

Within each track, presentations are given by various subject matter experts from System Integrators (SI’s), Learning Partners, Independent Software Vendors (ISV’s) and Microsoft. As of today, two of Cogent’s consultants are planning to present at two sessions:

  • Andrew Alexander will be presenting ‘Leveraging SharePoint Lists as User-Driven Data Sources:’ The purpose of this demo is to show how SharePoint lists can be used as a table for data input and leveraged in an ETL cycle to a database for data management and reporting needs. The problem is that sometime user data must be captured and leveraged in back end database systems for use by other operations.  The approach we used to solve this problem is a demo of how you can leverage SharePoint lists in conjunction with PowerShell, SSIS, and SQL stored procedures to extract, transform and load data from a front-end SharePoint application into a back-end table for functional use.  The expected result is that you can create a dynamic list of user input to be leveraged by back-end database operations without having to create a complicated solution using forms and custom code.
  • Ty Anderson will be presenting ‘A Developer’s Roadmap to Building Professional Office-based Solutions:’ This session will provide the experienced developer with an understanding of the developer technologies provided by the Office platform.  Rhis session includes ready-to-use samples of server-side tools like SharePoint workflow, SharePoint Business Connectivity Services, and the various SharePoint data access methods (e.g. Client Object Model, REST API, web services, et c).  This session also provides developer samples of client-side tools like VSTO, Open XML SDK and SharePoint Designer. This session explains when to use ShrePoint’s “document services”…Word Services, Excel Services, Visio Services, and Access Services. This is a fast-paced session intent on giving the professional developer an understanding of the tools they need to begin incorporating the Office platform into their solutions.

“Judging by the content on the docket, attendees will be getting a mini TechEd for SharePoint,’ said Ty Anderson, Cogent Founder and Vice President, referring to Microsoft’s TechEd 2011, which will take place in Atlanta the same week. “This is a great opportunity for folks of all experience levels to come learn about ways they can take advantage of SharePoint in their organizations from folks who spend every day in SharePoint.”

SharePoint TechFest is being combined this year with the inaugural Innotech Dallas conference, a regionally focused business to business technology conference & expo. Cogent has participated in InnoTech Oklahoma for several years. “We’ve enjoyed our affiliation with Innotech, and when Innotech took over the SharePoint TechFest, we were excited because of the new opportunities the combined conferences present to our clients and our firm, said Marc Hoppers, Founder, President, and CEO of Cogent.
