Texas Talent Trends and the Widening Tech Talent Gap Presentation

On Thursday, April 4, 2013, Cogent Company sponsored and presented at the Innotech Dallas and SharePoint TechFest conferences at Irving Convention Center in Irving, Texas. Our consultants presented the following sessions:

Marc Hoppers, Cogent Company Founder and Managing Partner, presented with Dr. Jerry Dake, Adjunct Professor at the University of North Texas College of Business and Director of UNT’s Center for Information Technology. Dr. Dake presented a longitudinal research study that Dr. Dake and his colleague, Dr. Jack Becker, have been working on since 2006. They have collected job posting data from CareerBuilder to determine how information technology and decision science jobs are trending in the state of Texas.

Following Dr. Dake’s presentation, Mr. Hoppers presented some of the latest policy issues related to high-skill immigration and science, technology, engineering, and math (“STEM”) education funding. Mr. Hoppers had just returned from meetings with both Texas Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn’s staff discussing how high-skill immigration reform represents a short-term talent solution and STEM reform and funding represents a long-term talent solution.
