January 4, 2010. Dallas, TX. Cogent Company announced today that it will be a Platinum-level sponsor at SharePoint TechFest 2010. Cogent was an inaugural SharePoint TechFest sponsor in 2009, and looks forward to continuing our relationship with the largest SharePoint-focused conference in the Central US.
"When we started looking into SharePoint in 2004, before the Office 2007 release, we realized that Microsoft's investments in the integrated Office Server platform was finally going to deliver on an integrated communication and collaboration platform," said Marc Hoppers, Founder and Managing Partner at Cogent Company. "As we have built our firm's capabilities around helping organizations get more from the SharePoint platform, we have realized that Microsoft has truly delivered a platform that is so much more than just basic communication and collaboration. We've been able to help organizations manage content and documents, implement global public, secure, Internet portals, and implement business intelligence solutions."
SharePoint TechFest 2010 will be held on March 2, 2009, at the Dallas Infomart in Dallas, TX. Cogent Company is a Platinum Sponsor and the Lunch Sponsor of SharePoint TechFest 2010. Two of Cogent’s top conference speakers and most respected consultants will be speaking at TechFest 2010.
At 9:15am, Damon Armstrong will be presenting, 'Building MVC Applictions in SharePoint." SharePoint has quickly become the standard for building out highly collaborative corporate intranets, which means that applications have to be available from a SharePoint environment to be viable line of business applications. Developers, however, have really started to embrace the ASP.NET MVC Framework for building applications, and that poses a problem because SharePoint does not natively support the MVC Framework. In this developer focused session, we will discuss all of the details about how to expose MVC views through SharePoint and build out a fully-functional web part to accomplish that goal. IT managers may also find the session useful to get a clear understanding of what is involved in building an MVC application for a SharePoint site.
Damon Armstrong is a code poet. Although the phrase may elicit thoughts of elitist snobbery and unnecessary complexities, you can rest assured that his code is more like a dirty limerick: short, simple, and straight to the point. Mr. Armstrong is the Senior Architect at Cogent Company, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner specializing in web application development with SharePoint and ASP.NET. He is the author of ‘ASP.NET Website Programming’ from Apress, writes for Devx.com and Simple-Talk.com, and is a Microsoft Tech Ed speaker. In his spare time he works with Carrollton Young Life and likes to play disc golf and softball.
At 4:30pm, Ty Anderson will be presenting, "Using SharePoint Business Connectivity Services to Expose Line-of-Business Data." Business Connectivity Services is the new Business Data Catalog. The BCS ends the tyranny of enslaved data forced upon users by legacy applications known as Line of Business (LOB) Applications. The BCS brings freedom and liberty to LOB data and allows you to rescue the data and plop it into SharePoint lists. Nirvana for data! This session goes beyond the marketing slides and provides some real-world knowledge and examples of how to integrate LOB data into SharePoint for use within SharePoint and other custom WinForm, Web, or Office applications.
Ty Anderson is a partner at Cogent Company. He spends his time consulting and building software using Microsoft technologies. In addition to consulting, Ty is a Microsoft MVP and writes frequently about Microsoft products, including VSTO, SharePoint, Office, SQL Server, etc. His work has been published on MSDN, Devx.com, DevSource.com, Simple-Talk.com, and CIO.com. To Ty’s senior high school English teacher’s horror, Ty has written two books: ‘Pro Office 2007 Development with VSTO,’ and ‘Office 2003 Programming: Real World Applications.’ Those who know Ty best stand in awe and amazement of two things: 1) His incredible good looks and 2) his cynical and sarcastic (and sometimes offensive) behavior. Look for him at any tech conference as he will be wearing his yellow Oakland Athletics hat. Say hello, and as he might just offer to buy you pint. In the meantime, you can catch a glimpse into his mind by reading his blog: http://www.officedeveloper.net.
